How to become a blockchain engineer for college students

Patrick Shields
Marketing Director at Alphapoint

If you're focusing on blockchain technology this early on in your coding career, you're already a step ahead. For those new to coding and computer science, it is first beneficial to understand that blockchain development is a wide arena of study, definitely language agnostic (JavaScript, C#, Python, Golang, etc.) as well, as you progress academically, learn more computer science concepts, delve into more languages, I would definitely emphasize on personal projects to get familiar with the more detailed underlying architecture/framework that blockchains utilize and are built upon. Personal projects are a great way to enhance and formulate your understanding of these topics and showcase your expertise to others as well. These projects don't need to be extensive or super fleshed out, but, the goal here is to rather highlight your skill-set, desire, and hunger to gain knowledge while attaining some solid hands-on approach to an important/interesting problem and companies love that initiative. You could utilize MIT courseware on youtube as a starting point to learn more about the starting/intermediate cryptography concepts that build up the base of almost all blockchains.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH6vE97qIP4&list=PLUl4u3cNGP63UUkfL0onkxF6MYgVa04Fnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJquEYhiq_U&list=PLUl4u3cNGP61KHzhg3JIJdK08JLSlcLIdIf you've heard about Smart Contracts/Defi (decentralized finance), there's a wide variety of tutorials you can find on youtube or similar sources to get started. I'm highlighting a few down below:https://ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/smart-contracts/ - Introduction to Ethereum blockchain, smart contracts, Defi, etc.https://cryptozombies.io/ - this is a great resource to get started into developing simple contracts using Solidity or Libra (languages used to design smart contracts)If you are interested in an internship at AlphaPoint, I would highly recommend utilizing the above resources and attempting to build and learn more about the architecture around cryptocurrencies. We love passionate individuals who are eager to strike and produce meaningful contributions to this field. Simple projects surrounding the blockchain field and showcasing your work on platforms like GitHub and GitLab would definitely be a plus for all companies in this sector. There's a lot of stuff underway in this blockchain world, and honestly, it is hard to keep up with everything. There is a multitude of areas you could be involved in AlphaPoint such as wallets, defi, blockchain integrations, etc. I would recommend researching/reading about the unique challenges these areas bring to the table and developing an understanding of them.
